I have been colleague and friend of Pankaj for almost two decades.
I have seen him work his leadership magic multiple times leading teams and companies in growing and realizing their potential. We have worked together during the best of times when everything just clicked, and business thrived and also during the most challenging times when every success was a hard-fought battle.
What inspires me most about Pankaj are his commitment to listen to others, his willingness to learn from every experience, and his conviction to collaborate in finding solutions to tough problems. He has developed a unique gift of being able to analyze complex situations and put, in understandable terms, the action plans and lessons learned in addressing key leadership moments. I look forward to continuing my journey with Pankaj by enjoying “PracticalSpeak”.
Over my career as CMO and CEO, I have come to respect people that are thoughtful, creative, inventive, and results oriented. Pankaj is exactly that person. Over 16 years, I’ve come to respect his strong work ethic and his keen ability to “practice his craft” at the highest levels. I worked with Pankaj while at McAfee and witnessed his broad capabilities to build, manage and substantially grow our business.
I hired Pankaj at ID Analytics to help craft and launch a consumer business for the company largely recognized for its enterprise fraud and credit capabilities. No small task. Pankaj truly enjoys creative marketing and business analysis and doesn’t take anything on “face value”. He probes. He pushes. He challenges conventional wisdom. He gets the most out of his team and others. He’s a high-integrity guy to boot.
We had the privilege of being introduced to Pankaj by our mentor, as he believed that Pankaj could help us shape the direction of our non-profit organization and grow it into something more meaningful and impactful. What was immediately apparent was that Pankaj is someone who is committed to helping people unlock their potential.
Pankaj has a way of seeing things in a way that many people do not. He is an empathetic listener, and approaches conversations in such a thoughtful manner. His thought provoking questions have served to challenge us to think beyond the obvious and establish our organization as a real change-maker in the global STEM space. Through his mentorship and by actively providing us with tangible tools and resources, we are creating a more sustainable and practical strategy for growing our organization. Pankaj has been an amazing sounding board for us as we have been in the process of taking our vision to the next level. We can truly say that we come out of every conversation with Pankaj feeling empowered and motivated to keep pushing the envelope.
There’s a distinct way experienced Marketers think. They pay attention to difference. Which often means turning away from the herd to consider the outliers: those aspects of a story that everyone ignores. The elements that are hard to reconcile but offer long term value.
Take Data Security and Personal Privacy, while the majority is focused on protecting commerce, individual consumers have thrown up their hands and surrendered their intimate details in return for free digital stuff. Not Pankaj. He was brave enough to question the fundamental assumptions of internet commerce and lead the charge for taking a hard look at personal privacy. He called for the creation of new category of digital commerce: Total Privacy. And he led the charge against Facebook and Google long before they were hauled into Congress to explain how they were failing all of us.
I worked closely with the guy. There is no better advocate for what Steve Jobs called thinking different in the pursuit of marketing excellence.
I’ve had the honor of working with Pankaj for over 15-years: as a peer, as a direct report, and as a consultant. In that time, I’ve yet to come across a more inspirational executive. Throughout his highly successful career, Pankaj has demonstrated that rare combination of being both a visionary and a skilled technician. His ability to motivate cross-functional team members to execute on a strategic path, is second to none. He is both fiscally pragmatic and innovative, a rare find within today’s business leaders.
His greatest strength is his ability to articulate a strategic vision, whether the audience is investors, analysts, or employees. He’s conversational, engaged, and prepared. As a gifted orator, he exudes a humble confidence that allows each audience member to immediately envision how they could participate, contribute, and commit to a company’s strategic journey.
As the Founder & CEO of a technology company choosing leaders to manage critical business elements is the most important decision I had to make. I found Pankaj as I was searching for a CMO with large enterprise experience who could work in a startup environment. His task was to lead our transition from a D2C business model to a B2B2C model. This is a journey few companies have managed successfully.
Pankaj refocused our internal resources around a new channel, was instrumental in defining the new product specifications working alongside our Development team and was instrumental at every Partner meeting in selling our vision for the category. Within 1 year we landed 3 major Partner accounts and our revenue rose by more than 800% and we became the #1 company in market share in the B2B2C space.
His knowledge, leadership, vision and his extraordinary ability to communicate a complicated vision into a believable message were critical to our success. I believe that Pankaj understood that no matter how good the technology in any area, if the consumer cannot easily understand the value and the benefit in adopting it then it would ultimately fail. This end user focus and the elegance of the positioning he created is what drove our success.
